Unni Mukundan and Guneet Monga Address Violence in Marco and Kill: 'It's Just Entertainment
11 hours ago | 5 Views
Last year, Lakshya and Raghav Juyal brought some serious intensity to the big screen with their film Kill, which turned out to be one of the most violent flicks to hit theaters. Just when we thought we’d had our fill of blood and guts, Unni Mukundan stepped in with his fierce performance in Marco.
It seems like there’s a bit of a rivalry brewing over who can showcase the most violence in their films, sparking conversations about how much is acceptable and whether it has any real impact on viewers. Unni Mukundan, who’s become quite the action star thanks to Marco, believes that the film won’t push anyone to commit violent acts. Meanwhile, Guneet Monga, co-producer of Kill, also weighed in on the violence portrayed in Lakshya and Raghav Juyal’s project. Let’s dive into what both the actor and producer had to say about the graphic content in their films.
Unni Mukundan talks about the violence in Marco
Unni Mukundan recently defended the intense violence in Haneef Adeni's film during an interview with India Today, emphasizing that he respects the audience's intelligence. He pointed out, “It’s just a movie meant for entertainment. It’s not going to make anyone want to commit violence in real life.”
Sticking to his guns, Unni acknowledged that he’d heard some viewers found it hard to watch, but that was about it.
In the film, Unni plays Marco, who goes on a violent quest for revenge after losing someone close to him. Despite its graphic scenes, the Malayalam movie is doing really well at the box office, even beyond Kerala.
Unni brought up the Yash-led KGF and asked what unfolded after the release of the Kannada action flick. He noted, “We ended up with KGF 2, which was an even bigger success and a fantastic movie.” He also mentioned that Marco 2 is on the way, and it’s safe to say it’ll follow a similar intense vibe.
Guneet Monga discusses the theme of violence in Kill
Guneet Monga, who gained international recognition when her documentary The Elephant Whisperers snagged an Academy Award, is a co-producer on Kill. In a chat with Faye D'Souza, she opened up about the film's violent themes.
Guneet Monga mentioned that while there are action and killings in the film, they didn't glamorize the violent scenes. She pointed out, "We didn’t do any slow-motion blood shots or celebrate violence in any way."
She also praised director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat for how he handled the violence in "Kill," which is an extreme action film. The movie, produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, revolves around a train hijacking by dacoits. Even without big Bollywood stars, it still managed to attract a lot of attention.
Another Hindi film that sparked intense discussions in India is Ranbir Kapoor's "Animal," directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Guneet expressed her disagreement with the story's misogynistic elements but admitted she enjoyed the action scenes.
As these films continue to make money and sequels are on the horizon, we can anticipate even more violence and gore in cinema in the future.
