UI – The highly anticipated return of the renowned actor-director Upendra to filmmaking debuted in theaters last December, receiving a range of reviews. Some viewers appreciated his signature philosophical style in storytelling, while others criticized the film's preachy tone, arguing that many of its themes echoed the manifesto of his Prajakeeya party. Despite a strong initial performance at the box office, the film's momentum diminished quickly after the release of Kiccha Sudeep’s Max just five days later.

In February, Zee Kannada, which possessed the satellite rights for UI, announced that the television premiere would occur soon. However, there was no further communication from the platform. Instead, Max, another title acquired by the network, received a similar promotional push and subsequently had a simultaneous television and OTT release on Zee Kannada on February 15. Since that time, there has been a lack of updates regarding UI, leading to speculation that the film's OTT rights may still be available and that Zee Kannada might only hold the satellite rights.

UI gets an Ugadi TV premiere

There were rumors suggesting that UI would be available on OTT platforms for Ugadi; however, neither the producers nor any streaming service has confirmed this. Recently, producer KP Sreekanth announced that UI would be broadcast on television during the festive occasion, but details regarding its OTT release remain unclear. The film is scheduled to air on television on March 30 at 4:30 PM. It raises the question of whether UI will also be released on Zee5 at the same date and time, similar to what was done with Max and the recent successful Telugu film, Sankrantiki Vastunam.

In contrast to previous practices where the OTT release consistently occurred before the television premiere, leading to widespread piracy of films, Zee Network has been exploring a new strategy of launching both TV and OTT versions simultaneously. This approach guarantees that viewers interested in the film can access it on either platform. According to sources, an announcement regarding the OTT release of UI is expected to be made soon.
