UI marked the return of the real star Upendra to directing after almost ten years, and it generated a lot of excitement before hitting theaters. Fans had high hopes for an Upendra film, especially with all the buzz about how he was leveraging new technology to create something entertaining. But when UI finally premiered, it split the audience. Some folks resonated with the film's message, believing it was crafted for those willing to dive deep into its themes, while others weren't fans of Upendra's Prajakeeya ideas being brought to life on screen. 

UI should take inspiration from Max's approach?

The movie hit theaters on December 20 and had a solid start, but things took a nosedive when Kiccha Sudeep’s Max came out just five days later. Reports say Zee Network picked up the satellite rights, and while the creators mentioned selling the digital rights to another platform, insiders hint that it’ll actually be available on Zee5. There was even a promo for its TV debut, but no date was announced, and shortly after, Max had a similar update.

Sudeep’s film launched on February 15 with a fresh approach, releasing both the satellite and OTT versions simultaneously. This strategy was also applied to the Telugu film Sankranthiki Vastunam, and sources tell OTTPlay that the same will happen for UI. Rumor has it that the Upendra film might premiere at a festival, with Ugadi being mentioned for its TV launch. While the network hasn’t confirmed anything yet, UI is expected to drop on March 30 during prime time. 

In the film UI, Upendra took on a dual role as both Satya and Kalki in a bleak, dystopian setting. The story delved into the conflicting beliefs of the two siblings and examined what happens when power, technology, and knowledge are abused.
