Tumbbad re-release Box Office collection day 3: Sohum Shah's film earns over 50 percent of its original BO on the first weekend itself

Tumbbad continues its excellent run at the Box Office after its re-release in theatres. The film was touted to mint Rs. 5 crores over the first weekend, but it has surpassed all expectations and earned more than 50% of its original Box Office by the end of the first weekend itself. The film has minted a total of Rs. 7.50 crores on its first weekend, whereas the lifetime Box Office collection for Tumbbad when it released back in 2018 was Rs. 12 crores. Here's a detailed analysis of the Box Office post Tumbbad's theatrical re-release...
Tumbbad first weekend Box Office collection
Tumbbad earned Rs. 3.25 crores on its first Sunday, according to Sacnilk. This was already a great jump from its first Saturday Box Office collection of Rs. 2.60 crores (a jump of 62.50%). Tumbbad had opened to a Box Office collection of Rs. 1.60 crores. Thus, the total net collection of the movie on its re-release currently is Rs. 7.50 crores.
Tumbbad is setting a new trend for re-releases
Among the latest re-releases, Tumbbad is the first re-release to earn Rs. 7.50 crores at the Box Office within three days. Other re-releases like Rockstar and Laila Majnu also performed well and earned a little above Rs. 10 crores during their lifetime run. Given how Tumbbad has already minted Rs. 7.50 crores, Rs. 10 crores should be a cakewalk for the movie, which is expected to hold up for at least two weeks, if not more.
Tumbbad to go from flop to superhit?
Back when it was released in 2018, Tumbbad managed to earn Rs. 13.50 crores. Since the movie was made on a budget of Rs. 15 crores, it was declared a flop that year. During its re-release in 2024, though, Tumbbad has earned a huge fan following, and thus, it has already earned half of its original Box Office collection within the first weekend itself. If the film can earn Rs. 6 crores in the next few days (given its current trend, that seems achievable), then Tumbbad will be declared a hit. If the film can hold well at the Box Office (given how there's very little competition currently), then Tumbbad could also end up as a superhit this time around. The Tuesday Box Office collection will play a huge role since that will decide whether Tumbbad can work even over the weekdays, when everybody is working. Monday is a partial holiday owing to Eid, and thus, the film is likely to earn more than it would over a normal weekday.
Tumbbad 2 is also announced with the re-release, and the sequel is currently in the making, actor Sohum Shah confirmed on social media recently.
