The lull that the Kannada film industry is experiencing currently will change by April/May, reckons Karthik Gowda of KRG Cinemas, a production and distribution firm in Karnataka. While KRG’s next, Ekka, featuring Yuva Rajkumar is set for release on June 6, Karthik says that a slew of good films, including the likes of Vidyapati, Agnyathavasi, Firefly, Ekka, 45, Kantara Chapter 1, KD-The Devil and Toxic set to release in the course of the year. While 45 has been announced as an August 15 release and Kantara Chapter 1 on October 2, KD and Toxic do not have official dates yet.
There have been ongoing speculations regarding the film Toxic, which was originally slated for release on April 10, 2025, potentially debuting in theaters this year, with December being the most probable timeframe. Karthik has corroborated this information, although he has not specified an exact date. Currently, there are no major Indian films scheduled for release in December, but this situation may evolve in the near future.
In the Kannada film industry, Dhruva Sarja’s KD and Darshan Thoogudeepa’s Devil are strong candidates for release. KD is currently in post-production, while Darshan has recently resumed filming for Devil following his arrest related to the ongoing Renukaswamy murder case. The only significant film confirmed for December is James Cameron’s Avatar 3: Fire and Ash, set to premiere on December 19. Although Avatar 3 is expected to be a major release in India, it is unlikely to overshadow the Yash-starring film.
However, Toxic is anticipated to have a substantial presence in the global market, as it is reportedly being filmed in both Kannada and English to facilitate an international release. While the initial April 10 release date would have allowed Toxic to benefit from the Easter and Vishu holidays, the only extended weekend in December will be the Christmas weekend, followed by New Year’s. Last year, Kiccha Sudeep’s Max was released during Christmas, managing to achieve the status of the highest-grossing Kannada film of 2024, despite facing competition from films in other languages.
Reports suggest that the creators of Toxic, who have only revealed the title and the initial release date without any formal announcements, are expected to inform fans about the film's release on April 10. However, this information has not been officially verified by the production team. Nevertheless, considering that Hollywood stunt coordinator JJ Perry has completed his work on the film, it is reasonable to conclude that Toxic is approaching its premiere.
