Nearly six years after its initial announcement, the crew behind Tovino Thomas' Palli Chattambi, written by S Suresh Babu and helmed by Dijo Jose Antony, started filming on February 19.

This film is set to be a major budget production and marks Tovino's second period piece of the year, following Narivetta, directed by Anuraj Manohar, which is anticipated to release in theaters soon.

The new movie, produced by Worldwide Films’ Noufal and Brijesh, is set in 1957. In a chat with OTTplay, Suresh Babu, who has written films like Dada Sahib, Shikkar, Kanal, and Oruthee, shared that the story unfolds during the Vimochana Samaram, a time when the communist government took charge in Kerala. “Tovino plays a goonda who is sent from the Malabar region by church leaders to safeguard their interests against the government,” he mentioned.

While the full cast hasn’t been announced yet, we do know that Divakar Mani will handle the cinematography, and Jakes Bejoy, who recently worked on Tovino’s Identity and Narivetta, will be in charge of the music. Dijo, who directed Prithviraj Sukumaran's Jana Gana Mana and Nivin Pauly's Malayalee from India, is at the helm of this project.

Tovino Thomas is set to drop his next film, L2: Empuraan

The actor from Minnal Murali is gearing up for his next project, which is L2: Empuraan, featuring Mohanlal and Prithviraj. He’ll be stepping back into the shoes of Jathin Ramdas. In a previous chat with OTTplay, Tovino mentioned, “The exposure I got from Lucifer was massive. So, I jumped at the chance to be part of Empuraan. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to work alongside actors I don’t usually get to share the screen with.”

L2: Empuraan, written by Murali Gopy, is set to release in theaters worldwide on March 27, 2025.
