Tom Cruise’s filmography is a very interesting mix of movies. Before he became this action star who could do his own stunts, even sitting on a flying airplane only to announce his new film, he was doing some rooted movies. While they were big in scale, they were also very grounded. One such movie from that phase of his career is Jerry Maguire. A movie about a man taking a drastic decision and standing by it is a very moving piece of art that comes from director Cameron Crowe. While the movie is indeed moving, did you know Tom was actually chased by a real camel while shooting for it?

Tom Cruise Was Chased By A Camel

Well, actors shooting in very strange situations and places is not news. And when it is Tom Cruise, the actor has clearly set the bar high for himself, forget anybody else. So when he was shooting Jerry Maguire, the filmmaker made sure there was authenticity in each frame, so he brought camels. And guess what, one ended up chasing Tom Cruise, biting a co-star, and injuring a crew member. Read on to know everything about the same.

Jerry Maguire, directed by Cameron Crowe, was to be shot in Arizona and California. To bring authenticity to the film, they even added camels to the backdrop. At one point, they started chasing Tom Cruise, who managed to save himself. But Cuba Gooding Jr., who was also in the film, couldn't save himself, and one ended up biting him. The scene did not end there; the camel even stomped on a crew member at one point, according to IMDb.

Yes, Jerry Maguire was written with Tom Hanks in mind and not Tom Cruise. But the scripting took a long time, and the requirement for the same was an actor who looked 35 years old. By then, Tom Hanks had aged and was beyond the requirement. This led to Tom Cruise coming in. “It was originally written for Tom Hanks,” Crowe explained to Empire magazine. “I took so long doing the script that Hanks was no longer a 35-year-old man. By the time he got it, he was... The perception of him was kind of what you hear. A hardworking guy who’s totally driven. What I learned is that he’s also very thoughtful, sometimes an insecure guy, and he does kind of wonder what would happen if all this success disappeared, all that stuff which I think attracted him to the script.”
