One of the most eagerly awaited films in Indian cinema is "L2E: Empuraan," featuring the legendary Mohanlal in the lead role and directed by the talented Prithviraj Sukumaran. This action-packed political thriller serves as a sequel to the 2019 hit Lucifer and is the second installment in a trilogy.
"L2E: Empuraan" is set for a grand global release on March 27, 2025, and will be available in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and Tamil. Advance ticket sales have already begun, and the film is breaking records with its impressive sales figures. Renowned producer Dil Raju is handling the distribution in the Telugu states through SVC. To build excitement ahead of the release, the team held a pre-release press conference in Hyderabad today.
The event was attended by Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Dil Raju, cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev, actor Karthikeya Dev, and others.
During the press meet, Mohanlal addressed the media, saying, "Good afternoon, everyone. I wish I could speak in Telugu, but I'm not very fluent. Thank you, Dil Raju garu, for supporting our film. As Prithvi mentioned, the Telugu film industry is the best in the country. The respect you show to cinema and artists is truly remarkable. Over my 47-year career, I've had the privilege of working with many great actors, including Nageshwara Rao sir. In Kerala, we enjoy films from all languages, but now it's time for a change. People should also watch our films. Empuraan is very special to us. When we made Lucifer, it was a unique experience not just for the audience in Kerala but for all film lovers. Empuraan is more than just a sequel; we have plans for three films in total. If Empuraan succeeds, we’ll definitely bring the third part to life. We’re all hoping for this film's success, and I believe we’ll be back here to celebrate either the 50th or 100th day of its release."
Everyone across the nation, especially in Kerala, can't help but feel a bit jealous of the audience that shows such immense love and enthusiasm for cinema. When we discuss the current state of film industries, it's clear that Telugu cinema, which started as a regional sector, has now emerged as the largest in India, thanks to its dedicated viewers. I truly hope that Empuraan marks the start of a similar journey for Malayalam cinema, he mentioned.
Dil Raju added, "Rajamouli paved the way for our regional films to reach national and international audiences with Baahubali. This trend was carried on by Prashanth Neel with KGF and Sukumar with Pushpa, all of whom elevated the standard with their two-part films. Now, it’s Prithviraj garu's chance to elevate Malayalam cinema to a national stage. The first part was a massive hit, and the second part is on the way. Many view the Malayalam film industry as small, but they invested around Rs. 35 crores in Lucifer, which turned out to be a blockbuster. Now, they've allocated Rs. 150 crores for Empuraan. The teaser is impressive, and the trailer, despite being 3 minutes and 45 seconds long, showcases many grand elements. Mohanlal sir's presence on screen is captivating. A big thank you to Mohanlal garu and Prithviraj garu for this chance. I hope Empuraan becomes a major blockbuster across India."
Cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev expressed, "I feel a sense of pride as we approach the film's release. I'm thrilled that we are bringing a quality film to the audience. Enjoy the movie!"
Actor Karthikeya Dev expressed his gratitude, saying, "I’m really thankful to Prithviraj sir for believing in me and giving me this role. My character, Zayed, means a lot to me. He’s like a volcano of emotions waiting to explode, and when it does, it’s unstoppable. The subtlety of my character turned out great. I feel fortunate to be part of such a significant project. A big thank you to Mohanlal sir for being so kind."
Empuraan is produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan through their companies, Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies. The film will be distributed in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and North India by Hombale Films, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Anil Thadani's AA Films, respectively.
