Naslen K Gafoor has successfully entered the Rs 100-crore club with his film Premalu, directed by Girish A D and featuring Mamitha Baiju. Naslen portrays the easygoing character Vishnu, who remains unconcerned about his BTech backlogs while assisting his friends with his hacking expertise. However, when his girlfriend Shilpa (Anishma Anilkumar) starts to pull away from him, Vishnu becomes anxious and seeks to win her back. This pursuit leads to a confrontation with her father, Chacko Periyadan (Dileesh Pothan), who mocks and physically assaults him. In response to this humiliation, Vishnu resolves to take revenge by infiltrating Periyadan’s software system at his company.

Girish AD chooses a quaint town in Kerala as the backdrop for his techno-thriller, marking a distinct departure from the typical films within this genre. As Vishnu embarks on his quest to infiltrate the software of Periyadan, which also serves as the company name, he resorts to utilizing an outdated desktop computer to access the network, adopting the pseudonym Kathalan, which is reflected in the title. When faced with opposition, Vishnu and his companions employ straightforward methods to retaliate. While the feasibility of such hacking techniques remains uncertain, the amusingly simplistic yet clever approach they take to accomplish their goals is quite entertaining.

Chacko Periyadan, the proprietor of a chit fund enterprise, possesses limited computer skills and seeks assistance from cyber security specialist Simi (Lijomol Jose) to safeguard their system. She successfully thwarts his subsequent hacking attempt, yet he is ultimately defeated once more. During this time, Shilpa harbours strong suspicions that Vishnu is the individual responsible for the hacking and shares her concerns with her fiancé Mathew (Vineeth Vasudevan). In response, Mathew provokes Vishnu to make another hacking attempt, as Simi has indicated that one more effort would unveil the hacker's identity.

Meanwhile, the betrothal ceremony of Shilpa and Mathew takes place, which Vishnu also attends. As they depart, Vishnu remarks to his friend that "not everything is over," and we witness Periyadan’s server igniting, although Simi successfully identifies the hacker's location.

In this scenario, Vishnu and his companion notice a police jeep trailing their motorcycle. Filled with apprehension, they dread the potential consequences, yet Vishnu resolutely declines to halt their ride. Meanwhile, Periyadan enters the police station in search of the perpetrator, only to discover that Mathew, Shilpa’s fiancé, has been apprehended by the authorities.

Simi realizes that the hacker had altered Mathew’s MAC ID to implicate him. It is subsequently revealed that Vishnu had sent Mathew a link disguised as a wedding photography website; upon clicking it, Vishnu obtained Mathew's MAC ID. Vishnu then cleverly masks his own MAC ID, successfully evading capture.

Despite his cunning, Vishnu confesses to feeling intimidated by the police. In the concluding moments, Simi mentions that she has relocated to Bangalore and rejoined her former company. Although the police have closed the case, Simi firmly asserts that Kathalan is a criminal and expresses her determination to apprehend him one day. The film concludes with an open ending, featuring Vishnu seated across from Simi during a job interview.
