The Wild Robot has officially launched its full OTT release in India after previously being available for rent on Prime Video and ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium). The animated science fiction film is now streaming on JioHotstar as of today. Produced by DreamWorks Animation under Universal Pictures, this 2024 film is based on Peter Brown's 2016 novel of the same name. It was adapted for the screen by Chris Sanders, who also directed the film, featuring a talented cast that includes Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Catherine O'Hara, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames.
The Wild Robot plot overview
The narrative follows Roz (Nyong'o), a service robot who finds herself stranded on a barren island. In her quest for survival, she must adapt to her new environment, forge bonds with the local wildlife, and take on the role of guardian to Brightbill (Connor), an orphaned goose. The story chronicles the adventures of Rozzum unit 7134, known as "Roz," as she navigates the challenges of her uninhabited surroundings, gradually forming connections with the island's animals and becoming a surrogate parent to a lost gosling.

Box office and critical success
With a global box office gross of $329 million against a production budget of $78 million, The Wild Robot has achieved both critical and commercial success, ranking sixth among animated films released in 2024. This marks DreamWorks' fourth film to excel in all its categories, earning nine Annie Awards among various accolades. Additionally, it received nominations for Best Animated Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards, the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, and the 78th British Academy Film Awards.
Character and story details
In the film, Lupita Nyong'o voices ROZZUM unit 7134 ("Roz"), a discarded robot from Universal Dynamics, who washes ashore in an Oregon forest and learns to adapt to her new environment. The name ROZZUM and its product line reference Rossum's Universal Robots, the play that introduced the term "robot." Another damaged robot, ROZZUM unit 6262 ("Rummage"), also arrives on the island, providing Roz with a transponder to facilitate her return home.
The initial companion that Roz formed a friendship with is Fink, a clever yet benevolent red fox voiced by Pedro Pascal. Conversely, Kit Connor portrays Brightbill, an abandoned and weary Canada goose whom Roz adopts as her own child following the loss of his biological family.
Sequel plans
In terms of sequel developments, Sanders expressed a strong interest in pursuing this direction. He noted that the entire studio team was highly committed to their project, and he conveyed his intention to stay involved for an extended period. He later affirmed that a sequel is currently in progress.
