Disney+ Hotstar is set to release a new film titled The Storyteller, based on the legendary Satyajit Ray's short story Golpo Bolo Tarini Khuro. Starring Paresh Rawal and Adil Hussain in lead roles, the film delves into themes of friendship, betrayal, and personal growth. The trailer has already captured significant attention, and with the release date approaching, here's everything you need to know about The Storyteller.

Directed by Ananth Mahadevan, The Storyteller will be released on January 28, 2025. 

The Storyteller plot

The Storyteller brings to life Satyajit Ray's classic short story Golpo Bolo Tarini Khuro. Paresh Rawal plays Tarini Bandyopadhyay, a gifted storyteller who weaves tales of adventure, fantasy, mystery, and more. However, he refuses to commit his stories to paper, despite pressure from his family to do so. One day, he encounters Adil Hussain, a wealthy businessman struggling with chronic insomnia, who asks Tarini to share his stories in hopes of finding some relief and sleep.

As their bond grows stronger, Adil learns of Tarini’s reluctance to publish his stories. Taking advantage of this, he publishes Tarini’s tales as his own, achieving great success. The situation takes a serious turn when Tarini discovers the truth, leading him to feel deeply betrayed. This revelation sparks a journey of self-reflection, ultimately motivating Tarini to stand up and claim rightful ownership of his stories.

Set in Kolkata, the film showcases iconic locations of the city, with the background music Aha Ki Ananda by Anup Ghoshal, a song from the popular film Hirak Rajar Deshe, directed by Satyajit Ray.

The Storyteller cast

In addition to Paresh Rawal and Adil Hussain, The Storyteller also features Anindita Bose, Rohit Mukherjee, Revathy, Tannishtha Chatterjee, and others. The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Salil Chaturvedi, Suchhanda Chatterjee, and Shubha Shetty, with backing from Jio Studios, Purpose Entertainment, and Quest Films. The music for the film is composed by Hriju Roy.
