The political drama is directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Vikir Films Production. On its first Sunday (day 3), the film minted ₹3 crore, as reported by Sacnilk. The total collection of the film now stands at ₹6.35 crore. The film has an overall Hindi occupancy of 38.58% on its third day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was the Chief Minister Of Gujarat when the Godhra train burning incident took place hailed The Sabarmati Report. Taking to his social media account, he shared a post that appreciated the film and wrote, “Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, facts will always come out!"

The real-life Godhra incident in Gujarat took place on the morning of February 27, 2002. The entire nation was shaken by the news of a sudden fire that broke out on the Sabarmati Express, killing 59 pilgrims and karsevaks who were on their way back from Ayodhya. The cause of the fire remains disputed.
