The Residence is an upcoming murder mystery series that stars Uzo Aduba in the role of a detective from the Metropolitan Police Department, tasked with solving a prominent murder case. This eight-episode series, produced by Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland, takes place within the confines of the White House, where the investigation unfolds across 132 rooms and involves 157 potential suspects.

A trailer for the series was released on January 30, providing information regarding the premiere date and platform. It was disclosed at the conclusion of the trailer that all eight episodes of The Residence will be available on Netflix starting March 20. The narrative centres on Uzo Aduba portraying Cordelia Cupp, a detective with the Metropolitan Police Department, who is summoned to probe the mysterious circumstances surrounding a "dead body on the third floor of the White House." She asserts, "Mr. President, this house needs to be treated like a crime scene," as she endeavours to uncover the perpetrator behind the incident.

The official synopsis of the series states, "132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion." As the investigation progresses, Special Agent Edwin Park (Randall Park) from the FBI is assigned to collaborate with Cupp, leading to the emergence of interpersonal tensions among the 157 staff members of the residence.

The Residence, inspired by Kate Andersen Brower's book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, features a diverse ensemble cast that includes Giancarlo Esposito, Susan Kelechi Watson, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Edwina Findley, Randall Park, Molly Griggs, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Spencer Garrett, Bronson Pinchot, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Mary Wiseman, Matt Oberg, EL Losada, Alexandra Siegel, Ryan Farrell, Barrett Foa, and Kylie Minogue, among numerous others.
