The Requin, a terrifying thriller from 2022, is ready for its OTT release in India. The film, starring James Tupper and Alicia Silverstone, is all set to premiere on Lionsgate Play (also available on OTTplay Premium) on August 16, 2024. Le Van Kiet, who wrote and directed the film, made The Requin available on demand on January 28, 2022, bypassing a theatrical release. An old term for the great white shark, meaning "shark" in French, the title is a derivation of the word "requiem shark."
Plot overview of The Requin
In the film, after a tropical hurricane destroys their property, a honeymooning couple ends up trapped at sea. As sharks lurk below, they must battle the environment for their very survival.

Alicia Silverstone's reflection on The Requin
Earlier, in an interview with MovieFone, Silverstone spoke about The Requin and said that being a part of such an intriguing narrative made her very happy. One of her favourite directors is Le Van Kiet. She had the pleasure of seeing two of his films, and they were simply breathtaking. Plus, his style is so unique; it's perfect for capturing ladies. Although he claims he lacks style, any viewer of his films will notice a distinct aesthetic. The actor was ready to trust him, and she was there to help. The fact that Silverstone was alone made no difference; what mattered were the surroundings, which in turn sparked her desire. Attempting to heal after the loss of her baby at birth, this woman is going through a tough time. Their marriage is on the rocks, and she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. They came here to try to save their marriage, but they wound up fighting for their lives. Whatever it was, it was thrilling.
As Silverstone read the script, the scene where she thrusts the coral into the shark's eyes for survival resonated deeply with her. Her initial thought was, "Oh, poor shark." However, one must persevere when faced with the threat of a shark attempting to devour them. Whether it's a shark or a human, it doesn't matter. One must survive; someone is going to kill them. The predicament they find themselves in is to blame, not the shark or her. Both the filmmaker and she would like to believe that environmental destruction is entirely the result of human activity, specifically their indifference to and disregard for climate change, as well as their continued wastefulness and lack of awareness of the impact of their actions.
Furthermore, Silverstone spoke about her experience in extreme weather, stating that it was extremely frigid. It was quite challenging to remain engrossed in the story while simultaneously suppressing her teeth chattering and shivering. The most challenging aspect was the physical limitation of being completely cold. It was late October, and the movie took place in early November, so the water was frigid. The only thing that mattered was that they were chilly. It was freezing when they shot in the pool in the middle of November, but she likes the director and couldn't have been happier to be there. It seemed as though they were reenacting a short film, a project they were extremely passionate about. They all dedicated themselves to it and believed it was a good idea.
The actor sported the identical, icy, and invariably damp garments day in and day out. She had to change into dry clothing, which is a pain in the neck, but it's all worth it when one is into what they are doing.
