The Great Indian Kitchen, directed by Jeo Baby, delves into the restrictive and conventional roles assigned to women in Indian families, centering on the journey of a young bride as she navigates her new household. Portrayed by Nimisha Sajayan, the main character becomes ensnared in a repetitive routine of household responsibilities, underscoring issues of gender disparity and patriarchy within her husband's home, represented by Suraj.

Suraj, who is set to make his Tamil film debut with Veera Dheera Sooran, remarked, "The story originated during the Covid pandemic when my friend, Jeo Baby, approached me about a character in a female-centric film he was developing. Upon hearing the narrative, I was immediately drawn to it."

The actor expressed that the issue addressed in the film is significant and he is pleased with its remakes in various languages. "This is a reality we witness daily with women in households. I was surprised by the level of discussion the film generated. Many men started taking on household responsibilities after viewing it. Some of my friends recognized the extent of their wives' hard work and began to assist them. It is wonderful that the film has inspired such a change."

Where to watch The Great Indian Kitchen on OTT?

The original film can be streamed on Prime Video. In contrast, the Tamil and Hindi remakes are accessible on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium at reduced rates.

The Hindi adaptation was directed by R Kannan, featuring Aishwarya Rajesh and Rahul Ravindran, while Sanya Malhotra took on the lead role in the Hindi version.
