Netflix will release The Old Guard 2, the much awaited sequel to the action film, on July 2, 2025. The story will enter an even more dangerous chapter as the film introduces new characters and reunites the cast from the 2020 original. Six months after the incidents of the first movie, the sequel, which is helmed by Victoria Mahoney, continues the tale of Andy (Charlize Theron) and her immortal team. They face a rising global danger, new alliances, and individual reckonings.

The story resumes six months later.

KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, and Chiwetel Ejiofor play Andy, who has become mortal, as she reunites with her immortal pals Nile, Joe, Nicky, and James Copley, respectively. Quynh is played by Veronica Van, previously Veronica Ngo, who is back to exact revenge after breaking free from a 500-year sentence at the sea's bottom. She now needs to be confronted by the group. Speaking with Netflix's Tudum, Van said that seeing how everyone else had moved on was the most tragic aspect of her lengthy submergence. The performer went on to say that her 500-year return to find Andy is accompanied by a variety of emotions, including longing, love, betrayal, hate, and missing.

In addition to producing the movie, Theron was really thrilled with the action moments they were able to pull off in the first Old Guard film. The sequel, she continues, will include even more action. We began by asking, "How can we raise that bar?"

The key to both the past and the future is held by Tuah.

Tuah, the guardian of eternal history, is portrayed by Henry Golding, while Discord, an ancient immortal, is played by Uma Thurman. Thurman claims that her role is "shrouded in mystery" and that, unlike the movie's protagonist Andy, she dislikes people.

Golding claims that his persona was given the name "Tuah," which in Malay signifies "luck." In the group's search for understanding their history and future, Tuah is essential.

Writers go back to broaden the scope of the tale.

The sequel is written by Sarah L. Walker and Greg Rucka. At the conclusion of the first movie, several notable modifications to the status quo were implemented, according to Rucka. Booker has been exiled as punishment for his offenses, Andy's mortality has inexplicably vanished from her, and Nile has joined the group and achieved immortality.

KiKi Layne reflects on Nile's progress in the first movie, noting that he is a newcomer. She is quite curious and obviously ignorant. She ultimately discovers her place on the team in the sequel.

Director brings fresh vision

Victoria Mahoney, who is directing her first feature film, wanted to give the sequel a fresh visual language. She said that whenever they went out to scout, she made sure to avoid places where she had been a spectator in many of her favorite movies. In quest of the unexpected, she gave it her all.

In this movie, there is something for everyone, according to Theron: followers of the first film, aficionados of the original graphic novels, and new fans looking for outrageous action, realistic and relatable characters, breathtaking settings, and a global cast of celebrities.
