The trailer for The Mehta Boys reveals that Boman Irani, after 23 years in the acting profession, has stepped into the role of director. He has taken the reins of this slice-of-life relationship drama, which explores the complexities of a strained father-son dynamic as they are compelled to share 48 hours together. This experience leads them on a challenging yet transformative journey. In this dual role, Irani portrays the father, while Avinash Tiwary plays the son.

What's in the trailer?

The trailer depicts Avinash's character welcoming his elderly father to his home for a brief visit. Boman's character expresses dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the arrangement, such as the flat being situated on the top floor, which requires climbing a flight of stairs, as his son prefers the view from that height.

Their tumultuous relationship is illustrated through various conflicts, ranging from disputes over who occupies the bed and who takes the sofa, to a moment where the father intervenes to prevent his son from driving in the rain after a fierce argument. When the frustrated son inquires of his girlfriend, “Is he a man or a child?” she replies pragmatically, “He's your father; you're the child.” The trailer concludes with Boman's character offering a tentative handshake to his son at the airport.

Boman collaborated with Academy Award-winning writer Alexander Dinelaris on the screenplay for the film. "The complex relationship between a parent and a child has always fascinated me, and this narrative encapsulates those profound and deeply human feelings," Boman remarked in a statement. The cast also includes Shreya Chaudhry and Puja Sarup.

The film has received significant praise on the festival circuit, having made its world premiere at the 15th Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF) in September 2024, where it was awarded the Best Feature Film Award.

Produced by Irani, Danesh Irani, Vikesh Bhutani, and Shujaat Saudagar under the banner of Irani Movietone LLP in collaboration with Chalkboard Entertainment LLP, The Mehta Boys is set to premiere on Prime Video India on February 7.
