Neon has just dropped a captivating and thought-provoking trailer for The Life of Chuck, a film that defies genre boundaries, crafted by the talented Mike Flanagan. This movie is based on a novella from Stephen King's If It Bleeds collection and tells a deeply emotional story in reverse, starting with death and winding back to childhood. Tom Hiddleston takes on the role of the enigmatic Charles Krantz, while Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Marty, a man who finds himself inexplicably haunted by Chuck’s increasing presence in his life.

The surreal mystery kicks off when Marty starts spotting Chuck’s face everywhere—on billboards, in news segments, and even on his TV. As Marty’s world begins to fall apart, Chuck’s life story unfolds through the perspectives of those who knew him, including Marty’s ex-wife, her colleague, and his neighbor. The film explores what makes this seemingly ordinary accountant deserving of such a remarkable farewell, which becomes the emotional heart of the narrative. The cast also features Karen Gillan, Annalise Basso, Benjamin Pajak, and Carl Lumbly, adding layers to this complex story.

At its core, the film delves into Chuck’s early years, introducing us to his quirky grandfather Albie, portrayed by Mark Hamill. Through Albie, Chuck learns about accounting, disco dancing, and uncovers a hidden family secret in the attic. Known for intertwining supernatural elements with heartfelt storytelling (as seen in The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep), Flanagan seems to deliver another poignant examination of life, death, and memory with The Life of Chuck.

With a supporting cast that includes Matthew Lillard, Mia Sara, Jacob Tremblay, Kate Siegel, Harvey Guillén, and Samantha Sloyan, this film is set to be one of the most distinctive adaptations of King’s work. The Life of Chuck is scheduled for release on June 6, 2025, and promises to be a moving, mind-bending reflection on what it truly means to live and how we are remembered after we’re gone.
