Joel and Ellie have returned. The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, the two survivors of the zombie apocalypse from the popular video game adaptation. HBO has unveiled the first trailer for Season 2, slated to take place in the same universe as the original.
Season 2 storyline: Five years after the events of Season 1
The eight-time Emmy-winning (and twenty-four-time nominated) series tells Joel and Ellie's narrative amidst a world swarming with parasitic fungus-infected zombies, mercenaries, cannibals, and merciless vigilantes. The official synopsis for Season 2 states that Joel and Ellie's shared history resurfaces five years after the events of season one, bringing them face-to-face and thrusting them into a world that is even more perilous and ill-defined than the one they escaped.
We anticipate that Season 2 of The Last of Us will continue where its 2020 sequel, The Last of Us Part II, left off, addressing the aftermath of Season 1's finale and Joel's actions. The first season adapts similarly to the critically acclaimed 2013 video game of the same name.
Confirmed cast members
Since the first announcement, numerous actors have already confirmed their return for Season 2. Gabriel Luna will portray Tommy, Joel's brother, and Rutina Wesley will portray Maria, Tommy's wife.
Kaitlyn Dever, Dina, Young Mazino, Jesse, Mel, Nora, Spencer Lord, and Manny are all newcomers to the cast this season. Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, and Danny Ramirez are also returning. Catherine O'Hara also makes an appearance in an undisclosed role. Jeffrey Wright plays Isaac, the brutal leader of the Seattle-based Washington Liberation faction. Jeffrey Wright will portray the same character from the successful video game sequel in the live-action adaptation.
Creators of The Last Of Us
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are writers and executive producers for The Last of Us. Both have previously worked as show directors, and they'll return for Season 2.
In addition to Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Jacqueline Lesko, and Cecil O'Connor from PlayStation Productions, executive producers include Carolyn Strauss and Evan Wells, president of Naughty Dog. Sony Pictures Television and HBO collaborated on the series' production. Naughty Dog, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and PlayStation Productions are the producers.
