Every now and then, a film comes along that reminds us of the good old days when we watched movies for an experience, ready to suspend our disbelief and surrender to a story. The movie stars Anne Hathaway as Solène, a 40-year-old single mother, who falls for a 24-year-old pop star, Hayes, played by Nicholas Galitzine, who is quite famous and has paparazzi following him wherever he goes. Their love story is not conventional in the eyes of the world and that leads to a lot of friction, especially since one of them is a famous personality. The film captures their struggles to stay together quite well.

The pressure from a world that has opinions about them, even when never solicited, is palpable. The Idea Of You also looks at how the family manages to create havoc in the lives of the two lovers who want nothing more than to be left alone. Eventually, Solène is forced to make the difficult decision to break up with Hayes Campbell. However, Hayes convinces her that they should take a break for five years until Solène’s daughter is out of school, and then give their relationship another try.

The Idea Of You Ending Explained

The Idea Of You climax is one of the most fascinating in a long time. Solène and Hayes decided to take a break for five years to let things come to a balance. Solène’s daughter Izzy has now moved to Chicago for college, which means Solène is now alone back home. In the end, we see Solène in her art gallery when someone comes to visit her, and as she comes out, she realizes it is none other than Hayes. They exchange smiles and the screen fades out.

The movie doesn't extend to them sharing a kiss or running into each other's arms. But the smile is enough to tell you that there is now a future these two are looking at, and this time it might work out because there is nothing in their way. The movie gives hope to the lovers, and that is the sweetest part of it all. Hayes is still very much famous, and Solène is now more confident than ever. They are ready to take a new leap together.
