The Glass Dome, a Swedish thriller mini-series released on Netflix on April 15, has enthralled viewers with its unexpected plot twists in each episode. Comprising six episodes, the narrative centers on Lejla Ness, a criminologist who returns to her hometown of Granås following the death of her foster mother. The storyline swiftly evolves into a gripping investigation that reveals unsettling secrets from her past.

Lejla becomes ensnared in a complex mystery when her childhood friend Louise is discovered dead under dubious circumstances, and her daughter, Alicia, goes missing. As Lejla delves further into the investigation, she is haunted by disturbing similarities between Alicia’s disappearance and her own childhood abduction.

The Glass Dome' Ending Explained: Who Kidnapped Alicia and Lejla?

The unthinkable truth

As the episodes progress, Lejla starts to have suspicions regarding her foster father, Valter, and his potential involvement in the circumstances surrounding Louise's death and Alicia's disappearance. The shocking truth is unveiled when it is revealed that Valter is, in fact, the man who abducted her years earlier. He is Ecki, the kidnapper who held her captive during her childhood.

This discovery completely alters Lejla’s reality, as Valter's fixation on her extended beyond mere adoption; it was rooted in a desire for control. He had also kidnapped Alicia and confined both girls in a hidden space beneath his residence. The gripping conclusion of the series reveals that Valter had not only concealed his captive daughters but had also buried the remains of his other victims in a nearby lake.

A rescue that kept us on the edge

In the concluding moments, Tomas, a local police officer involved in the investigation, discovers a concealed underground chamber beneath Valter’s residence. During a high-stakes rescue, Lejla and Alicia are liberated, and Valter's confession exposes the depth of his obsession. His actions stemmed from an unhealthy and obsessive love for Lejla, which had evolved into something monstrous over time.

The climax bears a resemblance to the final scenes of the 1991 hit film ‘The Silence of the Lambs,’ featuring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. In this film, Buffalo Bill, portrayed by Simon Northwood, abducts Catherine Martin, played by Brooke Smith, the daughter of Senator Ruth Martin, portrayed by Diane Baker, and confines her in his basement.
