After a month of theatrical run, Vijay-starrer film The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), is available for streaming on Netflix, in major South languages and Hindi. The film is written and directed by Venkat Prabhu and has been one of the much-anticipated films of the year. Now that the film has dropped on OTT, it is no secret that the director has ended the film on a cliffhanger note, teasing a possible sequel. Here, we will be explaining the ending of The GOAT for you.

The GOAT ending explained

Those who have already watched The GOAT, know that the film is an action drama starring Vijay in dual roles. The film is about former anti-terrorist squad SATS member, Gandhi, who is expecting a second child with his wife (Sneha). While on an undercover trip to Bangkok with his family, Gandhi faces personal loss, after his son Jeevan goes missing and is assumed dead on the same day his wife gives birth to their daughter. This causes the wife to leave Gandhi and raise their daughter Jeevitha single-handedly. However, years later, Gandhi, on a trip to Russia, stumbles across grown-up Jeevan who appears to be accepting of his father as they travel back to India and lead a good life.

However, just as when things seem to go correctly, we come to know that Jeevan is the adopted son of a terrorist (Mohan) who has scores to settle with Gandhi. Jeevan becomes a weapon to see the revenge. With the cat-and-mouse chase happening between Jeevan and Gandhi, Venkat Prabhu ends The GOAT on a cliffhanger note. The climax, which takes place at the Chepauk Cricket Stadium in Chennai features a father and son face-off, with Gandhi shooting Jeevan.

While all seems to be fine in the end, in the epilogue, we see someone practicing shooting on Gandhi’s photo. It is revealed that the real Jeevan is still alive and the one we have seen so far is only a close. The real Jeevan is seen cloning multiple of them, as he still has vengeance against his father. The film ends with the card “GOAT vs OG”.

Will The GOAT have sequel?

It is clear from the ending that Venkat Prabhu has left plenty of scope for the film to continue. With the real Jeevan still on the loose, and many more clones created, Gandhi is still not out of danger. However, practically speaking, Vijay has announced his retirement from acting with Thalapathy 69 to concentrate on politics. Hence, the chances for The GOAT sequel to scarce. But that does not rule out that Venkat Prabhu might still be able to convince Vijay to act in a film, to complete his story. One has to wait and watch to know the update of The GOAT 2.
