The Diplomat box office update for day 2: John Abraham's new film hit theaters on Friday with low hype and minimal marketing. While the political thriller is performing decently at the box office, it didn't see much growth on its second day. According to the latest figures from Sacnilk.com, The Diplomat raked in around ₹ 4.35 crore on Saturday, based on early estimates.
The box office earnings for The Diplomat
Is The Diplomat going to benefit from the positive reviews it received upon its release? So far, its box office collections haven't really improved much since opening day, which brought in ₹4 crore. Currently, the film's total earnings are at ₹8.35 crore.
On the other hand, Vicky Kaushal's film Chhaava has been doing much better at the box office, even on its 30th day. This historical biopic is still a strong contender, even after a month in theaters. According to Sacnilk.com, Chhaava earned ₹6.92 crore on its 5th Saturday, bringing its total collections to ₹553.67 crore.
The Diplomat critique
A review from the Hindustan Times about The Diplomat highlights Sadia's standout performance in a substantial role. She effectively conveys Uzma's pain and fear on screen, making her portrayal compelling. Revathy, who plays the late Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, has limited screen time but leaves a strong impression. Sharib doesn't have much to contribute, while Jagjeet Sandhu nails his role as the abusive Tahir. Kumud Mishra, as advocate NM Sayyed, is always a joy to watch.
The film, directed by Shivam Nair (known for Naam Shabana), also features Sadia Khateeb and is inspired by the true story of Indian national Uzma Ahmad. In 2017, she was brought back to India after being allegedly deceived by a Pakistani man, claiming she was forced into marriage at gunpoint and faced abuse during her visit to his country.
