Who would have thought that an experimental Bruce Wayne movie from an original idea by a director would evolve into a franchise within a franchise, not only finding its roots on the big screen but also in the streaming world? The Batman Part I, starring Robert Pattinson, might have irked some comic book fans upon its release, but it has managed to garner more praise than criticism.

The studio now trusts the material enough to give the movie the prestigious platform it enjoys today. While The Batman Part II continues to be a hot topic of discussion, we are now just a few days away from the spin-off series, The Penguin, which is an HBO Original. The show, focusing on Oz Cobb (who made a brief appearance in The Batman), is one of the most anticipated releases. But what if we told you there’s another spin-off series in the making?

More The Batman Spin-Offs in the Making

The Batman was a monster hit in the DC Elseworlds, managing to draw huge audiences even amid the pandemic, and was a successful venture. Now, as Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark, who serve as executive producers on The Penguin, discuss the scrapped Arkham Asylum spin-off series at Warner Bros., there's buzz that some elements of it may still feature in Colin Farrell’s show. While talking about this, they revealed there’s much more in store than we thought. Read on to know more.

In case you don’t recall, Warner Bros. had canceled an Arkham Asylum series that was in development, which would have focused on Sophia Falcone in the infamous asylum. According to Direct, when Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark were asked if Sophia’s story from the Arkham Asylum series would seep into The Penguin, Matt responded, "No, no. That story came from what Lauren [LeFranc] came up with as the backstory for Sophia Falcone. And really, what was chosen and what was used was solely driven by what would tell Sofia's story... The character that you're meeting was actually formed through the crucible that is this experience in Arkham."

Matt clarified that they weren’t trying to set up anything for Arkham Asylum down the line, though he mentioned that a bit of Arkham Asylum was also present in The Batman. Dylan Clark added that everything on this side of the DC Elseworlds should visually and tonally feel connected, ensuring consistency across the different projects.

"That was important to us, that visually it looked like—we had to match that part of it. And that's the fun of having made the movie and being the producers of the television series, how those worlds connect so that they feel like a nice handoff. That part of it is fun," Dylan said.

But here’s the exciting part—while discussing The Penguin, the executive producers dropped a hint that more spin-off series from The Batman IP is in the making. "But her ideas and the story elements that relate to [Sofia Falcone], those are all new ideas for her and have nothing to do with the other series that we're continuing to do," they added.

What Spin-Offs Are Possible Now?

The Batman universe is currently set during Bruce Wayne’s first year as Gotham’s protector, meaning there’s plenty to explore. The next spin-off after The Penguin could be a resurrection of Arkham Asylum, which was canceled but still has potential. Another possibility could be a show about Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, as he is a very intriguing villain. A legal drama set in a crime saga would make perfect sense. Additionally, there’s the potential for a Joker series, especially since Barry Keoghan has already been teased as the Clown Prince of Crime or even a series centered on the Court of Owls.
