One of the most significant discussions surrounding filmmaker Tharun Moorthy's upcoming project, Thudarum, featuring Mohanlal and set to premiere on April 25, revolves around its classification as either a thriller or a feel-good film. Tharun firmly asserts that his work is best characterized as a family drama, which, contrary to popular belief, does not fall into the feel-good category. He emphasizes that drama serves as the film's core element. Additionally, in a conversation with Saina South Plus, the director acknowledged the comparisons being drawn between Thudarum and Drishyam, expressing uncertainty about whether to interpret this as a positive indication.

'Thudarum is about the drama in one man's life'

Tharun, An individual who has been actively engaged in the online discussions surrounding this topic emphasizes that audiences should recognize that he does not conform to the trend of creating films akin to cult classics. The aim was never to position Thudarum as a counterpart to Drishyam. He also refuted speculations that the film's second half would revolve around an investigation, clarifying that his narrative focuses solely on the events occurring in one individual's life.

In a podcast, Tharun Moorthy, known for his films grounded in real-life events, such as Operation Java and Saudi Vellakka, expressed the importance of ensuring that Thudarum maintains this authenticity. However, prior to embarking on the project, he was uncertain whether the story contained elements of real-life inspiration. When he was invited to direct a film for the renowned Malayalam actor Mohanlal and received a summary of the plot, he found himself intrigued by the origins of the story's initial concept.

In a ten-minute discussion, Tharun sensed potential for a compelling film but felt it lacked elements drawn from real life. Nevertheless, he was eager to engage with the writer and arranged a meeting. During this encounter, Tharun discovered that KR Sunil is a photographer known for capturing life's fleeting moments through his lens. This revelation led Tharun to believe that the concept for Thudarum likely stemmed from one of these captured moments, and he was keen to learn more.

After an extensive conversation about the film's direction, Tharun inquired about the inspiration behind the subject. Sunil recounted a seemingly random scene that had piqued his interest: while traveling on a bus, he observed a stranger leaning against a wall, intently staring at a parked car. This moment resonated deeply with Tharun, providing him with the emotional core of the story and allowing him to mentally capture that vivid image. Consequently, Tharun decided to include this scene in the script, which will be featured in the film set to premiere in theaters on April 25.
