Vikram's action-adventure film, Thangalaan, has now been made available on OTT platforms. Those fans who were unable to view it in theatres and have been anticipating its release can now enjoy this captivating story from the convenience of their own homes.

Thangalaan released on this OTT platform

Tamil films typically debut on OTT platforms within a three to four-week timeframe; however, Vikram's Thangalaan has quietly appeared on OTT in its 17th week and is currently available for streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. There has yet to be any official announcement regarding the Hindi version of the film. The production company, Studio Green, announced this development on X. Accompanying the film's poster, they stated, “A quest for gold and justice buried deep in the pages of history. Stream the epic Thangalaan, now on Netflix.”

A public interest litigation (PIL) was previously submitted by a resident of Thiruvallur to the Madras High Court, requesting a halt to the film's release on OTT platforms. The petition asserted that the film respectfully presented Buddhism, while Vaishnavism was portrayed in a comedic light. The petitioner contended that such representations could exacerbate tensions among different religious groups. Nevertheless, the court rejected the petition, citing that the film had already received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under the banners of Studio Green and Neelam Productions, the action-adventure film features Vikram in five distinct roles, alongside Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone, Pasupathy, and Hari Krishnan. Upon its release, the film received mixed reviews from audiences, which adversely affected its box office performance. With a production budget of ₹100 crore, the film only garnered ₹68 crore globally.

Despite the film's lacklustre box office results, Vikram has announced plans for a sequel, stating, "Pa Ranjith had immense faith in me, which made this film possible. We all believe that Thangalaan deserves a sequel, and we plan to make many more. You all liked it so much. It was also gratifying when people in the Telugu states meet and tell me they’ve seen all my films, including those released on OTT.”
