Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna seem to have had a spooky December hanging out with vampires. They kicked off filming for their vampire comedy, Thama, last week, marking their first collaboration together. According to recent updates, director Aditya Sarpotdar officially launched the project on December 12 at Chitra Studios in Powai.

Distinct environments and delayed beginnings

A report from Mid Day has shared that the new horror comedy, Thama, produced by Dinesh Vijan, takes place in both present-day Delhi and the ancient Vijayanagara Empire. The release, which was initially set for October, has been pushed back.

Filming kicked off on December 12 with a night shoot featuring Ayushmann, Rashmika, and Paresh Rawal. The production designers, Amit Ray and Subrata Chakraborty, have built the set for Rawal's house in Delhi at Chitra Studio, where the trio shot their first scene. A source mentioned that they’ll be filming at this location until December 23, after which they’ll take a break for the New Year.

In January, the team will regroup in Delhi to finalize their shooting schedule.

The crew is heading to Ooty in February after a month in the capital, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be joining them. Aditya has set up a lot of shooting in the Ooty forests since the character played by Siddiqui lives in the wilderness. An insider shared that costume designer Sheetal Sharma has created a unique look for Siddiqui, who plays the villain.

Rashmika Mandanna is super pumped about Thama

In a recent chat with Pinkvilla, Mandanna shared her enthusiasm for Thama, saying the audience is going to be blown away and that she’ll be soaring through the air. She’s totally captivated by this one-of-a-kind world they’re building from scratch. It’s all about crafting new ideas and getting people to believe in their magic.

Mandanna has a passion for making films for kids, and this one is tailor-made for them since they’re the ideal audience. She mentioned how much fun the kids are having calling their parents to snag tickets for the movie, which she thinks is just wonderful.

With all the action involved, this is a brand-new realm for her. Doing intense physical stunts is a whole different ballgame compared to just showing emotions on her face. She’s thrilled to have this chance. Mandanna feels like she’s already seen the magic of Thama, and there’s something really exciting and fun brewing in her mind.
