This year, three major Bengali films, Srijit Mukherji and Dev’s collaborative film, Tekka, Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s Bohurupi, and Mithun Chakraborty-starrer Shastri got released during the festival season of Durga Puja. Two production houses, Windows and Dev Entertainment Ventures, gave an account of tickets sold at different cinema halls in West Bengal. Both gave lists of houseful or almost houseful halls for their respective movies.  

Bohurupi shows the brawl of a bank robber Shiboprosad Mukherjee and a cop Abir Chatterjee, desperate to nab him. Ritabhari Chakraborty and Koushani Mukherjee play two important roles. Almost houseful halls for this film consist of Inox South City, Priya, Star Theatre, Navina, Asoka, Wood Square Mall’s SVF Cinemas, etc.  

Meanwhile, on average, more than a thousand Bohurupi tickets per hour are getting sold. Twenty-four and a half thousand tickets were sold in the last twenty-four hours, more than that of the other two films as claimed by the production house. It has a fabulous rating of 8.6 as well. More than a hundred shows are houseful. The director duo Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee see it as the victory of Bengali cinema. Shiboprosad told Sangbad Pratidin Digital, “Wonderful news. We did many new experiments in the film. It is till now the highest-budget film of Windows. We are amazed at how people welcomed the film. Such success encouraged us to make films of different genres in the future. Bohurupi is the highest-grossing film in Windows’ career, and it was possible in only four days.” The director duo expressed gratitude to people for standing by them. 

In Tekka, the common man Dev sends the message questioning the system. Rukmini Moitra, Swastika Mukherjee, Paran Banerjee, and Srija Dutta play other important roles in the film. Two South City shows, two Star Theatre shows, one Navina show, SVF Malda, and Silver Screen: Berhampore are on the list of its houseful and almost houseful shows. Bohurupi and Tekka are trending and on the rise in the booking list of an online ticket aggregator. 

There is also Shastri, played by Mithun Chakraborty and Soham Chakraborty. This Puja, the battle between these three films will ultimately benefit Bengali cinema, as the cine lovers think.
