The streaming powerhouse has recently revealed its inaugural release for the upcoming year, titled Black Warrant, scheduled for January. Black Warrant Teaser Out

Following a remarkable 2024, which featured successful titles such as Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, Amar Singh Chamkila, The Great Indian Kapil Show, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, and CTRL, Netflix India is poised to commence 2025 with the release of Black Warrant, the nation’s inaugural prison drama. Set to premiere on January 10, this series offers an in-depth exploration of the ethically complex atmosphere within Tihar, the largest prison in Asia, as seen through the eyes of rookie jailer Sunil Kumar Gupta, who faces off against some of India’s most notorious criminals.

The series is crafted and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, with the collaborative efforts of co-directors Ambiecka Pandit, Arkesh Ajay, and Rohin Raveendran Nair. It examines Sunil’s challenges regarding power dynamics and moral conflicts, shedding light on the stark realities of life behind bars. Zahan Kapoor takes on the role of Sunil, supported by a skilled ensemble cast that includes Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur, and Sidhant Gupta in significant roles.

It is adapted from the book "Black Warrant: Confessions Of A Tihar Jailer," authored by Sunil Gupta, a former superintendent of Tihar Jail, along with journalist Sunetra Choudhury. This series signifies Vikramaditya Motwane's return to Netflix, featuring long-form storytelling and initiating India's content offerings for 2025.
