Tathagata Mukherjee chose YouTube to release his film, Bhotbhoti. He described his step as an experiment. The film was released in 2022 but in only ten halls. Rishabh Basu plays the eponymous character in the film. Bibriti Chatterjee, Deblina Dutta, Rajatabha Dutta, and Anirban Chakraborty play other important roles.

According to reports, there were some internal clauses by the producers for which the film's satellite rights could not be sold and it could not be released on OTT. Tathagata said that the film was praised by the critics, but many people could not watch it. Many people want to watch it and hence they are releasing it on YouTube.

Tathagata told the media, “Two years have passed and many people asked where they could watch the film. Today, when Bengali films are going through a bleak time and selling the films is a big thing, I am grateful for the producers' decision to release the film on YouTube. An artist's primary aim is to bring his art to the common people. It is happy news that a film like Bhotbhoti will reach the audience and they will judge the film. Bhotbhoti was my first work, but it faced deprivation and pain from the start. I believe that the release will give it the honor it deserves.” 

There are many controversies about the state of Bengali cinema. Bengali films have to struggle and compete with Hindi films to get cinema halls. The cost of the satellite rights of Bengali films is also decreasing. On the other hand, there are several conditions to release the films on OTT. Hence, Tathagata chose YouTube as a screening platform.
