Suriya is poised for the highly awaited premiere of his film Retro, directed by the esteemed Karthik Subbaraj. This forthcoming Tamil movie has successfully obtained a 'U/A' certification following the completion of its censorship process and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the Retro trailer, set to debut on April 18. In a thrilling development, it has been announced that Alphonse Puthren, known for directing Premam, has edited the trailer for Retro.

Alphonse Puthren cuts Suriya’s Retro trailer

Alphonse Puthren, known for directing acclaimed Malayalam films like Premam and Neram, has joined Suriya's Retro team. In anticipation of the upcoming launch of the Retro trailer, director Karthik Subbaraj shared on social media that the esteemed Malayalam director has edited the trailer for his Tamil film.

In a tweet tagging Alphonse Puthren, Karthik expressed his excitement on social media, stating, “The trailer for #TheOne has been edited by The Wild One!! Thank you, my dear friend... I felt immense joy being #Retrofied during our Naalaya Iyakkunar days...” 

It is worth noting that Karthik Subbaraj and Alphonse Puthren share a long-standing friendship, having begun their careers together in the late 2000s.

The trailer and audio launch are scheduled for Saturday evening.

Fans are thrilled to witness Alphonse Puthren's collaboration with the Tamil director, flooding the post with heart and fire emojis. Some comments on Twitter included, “That was really surprising!!”, “Masss combo machaaaa,” and “Juck kickass this is going to be a banger.”

Retro release

Retro is set to premiere in theaters on May 1, 2025. Anticipation is high for this film, as Suriya collaborates with Karthik Subbaraj, who gained acclaim with his debut film, Pizza. Fans are optimistic that Retro will mark a significant turnaround for Suriya following the disappointing performance of Kanguva.

The cast also includes Pooja Hegde, Joju George, and Jayaram.

In contrast, Alphonse Puthren's most recent film, Gold, was released in 2022. This movie, featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, the director of Lucifer, alongside Nayanthara, did not meet the expectations of the audience.
