Sweet Dreams story:

Kenny is just getting over a breakup, while Dia feels stuck in her relationship of two years. That is when they find each other in dreams. Eventually, they see each other in real-life and the chase to seek answers begins.

Sweet Dreams review:

Some movies are made to convey a message, and some movies are made to confuse people. Sweet Dreams, started with the intent of the former, is more about the latter. It is disappointing, to begin with.

Sweet Dreams commences with an introduction to the whimsical couple, portrayed by Mithila Palkar as Dia and Amol Parashar as Kenny. They are depicted as a contemporary pair, with one absorbed in their phone while the other seeks attention. The scene transitions to a coffee shop, where the presence of milkshakes feels somewhat incongruous yet resonates with the Gen Z demographic. The milkshakes unexpectedly transform into iced tea, laying the groundwork for a "filmy romance" amidst a series of blunders. As anticipated, this scenario unfolds within a dream, allowing for some leniency, especially since both characters exhibit charm despite the significant mishaps.

While the narrative foundation may not be as robust as one might hope, the actors exhibit potential chemistry. The blunders continue, as Dia mistakenly refers to her drink as coffee, which is unexpected in a coffee shop setting, given that the beverage is anything but coffee. In a poignant moment, Kenny brings a bittersweet smile to her face, evoking memories, while Dia reflects on how the spark in her relationship with Ishaan (Meiyang Chang) diminished after two years, as they began to prioritize other aspects of their lives over each other.

Eventually, it is revealed that Kenny is a recycling artist who remains entangled with his ex, who is thriving in her career, leaving him feeling overshadowed.

The narrative provides insight into his dating experiences in contrast to her own, highlighting the distinct phases of their lives. While her tumultuous journey creates a sense of confusion, the romantic essence is effectively conveyed through the well-crafted songs.

In a moment of despair, Dia and Kenny discover one another. Although he is clearly pursuing the ideal partner, she is equally taken aback.

Amol and Mithila deliver consistent performances; however, the underlying premise appears rather implausible. Amidst the pursuit of aspirations, the film shifts focus to the quest for an ideal romantic partner. Despite its romantic elements, the storyline lacks relatability.

Ultimately, the resolution offers essential clarity for both characters, providing a necessary conclusion to a film that straddles the line between illusion and reality. Director Victor Mukherjee aims to convey the importance of not becoming so engrossed in the pursuit of dreams that one neglects the existence of reality, yet this message is seldom effectively communicated. Consequently, the film serves primarily as a visual delight for fans of Mithila and Amol

.

Sweet Dreams verdict:

Sweet Dreams should have been wrapped up as a dream because no matter how cute Mithila Palkar and Amol Parashar look, the concept is flawed and not worth your time. Give this one a skip unless you are their fan and believe in fan-fiction-type stories.
