Actor Suriya, anticipating the premiere of his film Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, has revealed that he has completed the dubbing process for the movie. With only a month remaining until its release, Retro is set to be released in theaters on May 1.

Retro update: Suriya wraps up dubbing for Retro

Retro is a Tamil film set to be released in 2025, featuring actor Suriya in the leading role. This film marks the first collaboration between Suriya and director Karthik Subbaraj, who also penned the screenplay. The movie is slated to premiere in theaters on May 1.

On Wednesday, Suriya announced via social media that he has completed the dubbing for Retro. Accompanying this announcement was a brief video from the dubbing studio, where the creators of Retro embraced the Ghibli trend by utilizing AI to recreate an image of Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj in the studio setting.

Retro is being promoted as an aromantic action thriller and represents Suriya's 44th film. The cast includes Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, and Karunakaran. Produced by Suriya and Jyotika through their 2D Entertainment production company, Retro is set to be released in several languages, such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada.

Kanimma song from Retro becomes social media sensation

Recently, the creators unveiled the second single from the film, Kanimma. Composed by Santhosh Narayanan, the song quickly gained popularity, trending on social media platforms as many users recreated its catchy hook step. Pooja Hegde, celebrated for her on-screen charm, received praise for her impressive dance performance.

The film Retro is anticipated to incorporate elements of action, romance, and thriller, all woven into a distinctive narrative. Suriya’s role is expected to be intense, highlighting his range as an actor. This film marks the first time he will share the screen with Pooja Hegde.

Retro is among the most highly anticipated films, especially following the disappointing performance of Suriya’s previous release, Kanguva, which faced negative reviews. Additionally, the actor is collaborating with filmmaker RJ Balaji on his upcoming project, tentatively titled Suriya 45.
