Tamil film icon Suriya is set to collaborate with Karthik Subbaraj on a project titled Retro, which is described as an action-filled revenge thriller. In this film, Suriya portrays a gangster striving to leave his troubled past behind while seeking love. He will be starring alongside Pooja Hegde, and the film is scheduled for theatrical release on May 1, 2025.

Retro’s post-theatrical OTT rights

Earlier today, details regarding the post-theatrical OTT rights for Retro were revealed, as Netflix included the film in its 2025 lineup of Tamil productions. The streaming service stated, “A man’s love can move mountains, but his rage? That’s Retro!” Furthermore, it was noted that the film will be accessible in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi audio options. Although a specific streaming date has yet to be announced, it is anticipated that Retro will be available on Netflix approximately 30 days after its theatrical release.

Additionally, as part of Netflix's Pandigai 2025 lineup, several films have been announced, including Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly, Kaantha featuring Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati, Pradeep Ranganathan's Dragon, and an untitled project with Keerthiswaran, along with Dhruv Vikram's Bison, among others.

Retro, which is both written and directed by Karthik, carries the tagline Love, Laughter and War. The film boasts a diverse cast, featuring notable Malayalam actors such as Joju George and Jayaram, alongside a talented ensemble that includes Nassar, Prakash Raj, Karunakaran, Uday Mahesh, Sujith Shankar, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, and Tarak Ponnappa, among others.

Filmed in various locations including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ooty, Kerala, and Chennai, Retro features music composed by Santhosh Narayan and is produced by Stone Bench Creations and 2D Entertainment. This marks Suriya's 44th film, with shooting concluding in October. The title was revealed just a few weeks prior, accompanied by a teaser showcasing Suriya and Pooja, where he reveals his temperamental and aggressive nature, which he is willing to suppress for a future with her.

In the meantime, Suriya's most recent appearance was in Kanguva, a much-anticipated period action drama that ultimately failed to meet expectations and was considered a box-office disappointment.
