Superstar Sunny Deol, famous for his legendary roles in action films like Gadar 2, is gearing up to wow audiences with his new movie, Jaat. At the trailer launch event in Mumbai, he shared his thoughts on the importance of storytelling in cinema and the significant influence of the South Indian film industry on filmmaking.
During his chat with the press, Sunny highlighted that the true hero of any film is the story itself. He praised South Indian producers for their unwavering support of narratives, saying they really go the extra mile. He reminisced about his time working on Gadar, recalling how he met director Gopichand Malineni. "Amit Ji signed me for a film while I was busy with Gadar, and it was a fantastic story we wanted to bring to life. We approached several directors, but none grasped the essence of the story. Then Gopi came along and said he would take it on, and that was my first meeting with him in Goa."
Sunny went on to explain how he was immediately captivated by Gopichand's vision for Jaat. "Gopi had a different idea he wanted to pitch to me, and I was open to it. After hearing his story, I knew I had to be part of this film. The line 'Sorry Bol Wali' from Jaat really resonated with me, and I believed in Gopi's vision, which is how this film came to be."
The actor commended the way producers in the South Indian film industry operate, emphasizing their trust in the director's vision and their strong support for the story. "My producers have been fantastic; I often mention this, and I’ll say it again—producers from Mumbai could really learn from them. They should first transform Bollywood into Hindi Cinema and understand how films are crafted with genuine passion, just like in the South. They believe in the narrative and then place everything in the capable hands of the director. The story is the real star, and the director is the one who brings it to life."
Sunny also shared his deep admiration for the confidence that South producers have in their directors, noting how this backing significantly impacts the filmmaking process. "The way producers in the South fully commit to their story and director is remarkable. I had such a great experience working with my producers that I’m eager to start a second film with them. There’s a strong possibility I might settle down in the South," Sunny concluded, emphasizing the collaboration between the story, director, and producer that makes films like Jaat a reality.
Written and directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, the film features a talented cast including Regina Cassandra, Randeep Hooda, Ayesha Khan, Saiyami Kher, Zarina Wahab, Bandhavi Sridhar, Vishika Kota, Praneeta Patnaik, Doulath Sulthana, Vineet Kumar Singh, Ajay Ghosh, Dayanand Shetty, Jagapati Babu, and Babloo Prithiveeraj. It is set to be released on April 10, 2025.
