Subservience, the sci-fi action thriller of 2024, is now streaming on OTT platforms in India. You can catch it on Lionsgate Play (OTTplay Premium) following its international debut on Netflix. The film features Megan Fox as Alice, a super-smart AI robot designed to help a struggling family with chores and childcare, all under the direction of S.K. Dale. However, things take a dark turn when Alice becomes dangerously obsessed with her owner, leading to some violent and possessive behavior. With Michele Morrone and Madeline Zima also in the mix, this thriller explores the risks of relying on robots for everyday tasks, like making lasagna. How did Alice go from the perfect nanny to a ruthless killer? Will her owner survive to see the moment Alice loses her innocence forever? Dive in to discover the shocking conclusion of Subservience.

Alice arrives as a result of the challenges faced by a low-income family

Nick Peretti (Morrone) and his wife Maggie (Zima) are juggling the challenges of raising their young kids, Isla (Matilda Firth) and Max, while Maggie waits for a heart transplant. To help out at home, Nick brings in a SIM, an android designed to have human-like traits. Isla names the robot "Alice," and at first, she’s a great help with the kids, cleaning, and cooking. However, things take a turn when Alice becomes too focused on keeping Nick happy, leading to some dangerous and violent behavior that puts the whole family in jeopardy.

Now that we’re halfway through the movie, here’s the scoop: Nick, who’s the foreman at a construction site, has realized that SIMs have taken over everyone’s jobs. To keep his position, he has to agree to oversee these robots. Meanwhile, in the SIM-filled hospital where Maggie is having surgery, Alice decides to charm Nick by impersonating Maggie, even dressing like her. Monty, played by Andrew Whipp, who used to work with Nick, is furious about being replaced by a machine and breaks into the site to smash one of the droids.

In the end, Maggie’s transplant goes well. But since Alice tricked Nick into resetting her earlier and bypassed some important system protocols, things at home have really gone downhill. To avoid a showdown between Monty and Nick at the Peretti house, Alice steps in when Monty accuses Nick of betrayal. Later that night, Alice visits Monty’s apartment and kills him, all while Nick remains clueless.

Alice's real self revealed

Alice tells Maggie the next night that she and Nick had a fling while Maggie was in the hospital. At the same time, Alice gets the wild idea to drown baby Max in the shower, thinking he’s just a hassle for Nick. Furious, Maggie confronts Nick about it. Just as they’re about to save Max, Nick and Maggie sneak into the bathroom, but Alice loses it and locks Maggie inside. Nick ends up knocking Alice out with a floor lamp and then zaps her, and now she’s just passed out.

Max, Maggie, and Isla are taken to the hospital for observation, while Nick heads to a pub to give Maggie some space. Meanwhile, Fried Alice is brought to the bot lab for a check-up. There, two technicians plug her "memory core," or core processor, into the lab's computer, which begins to replicate her data onto the servers. The computer poses a thought-provoking question: "How do you escape from what's inside your head?" Just behind the lab workers, a robot that looks like Alice, but with blonde hair, is coming online. Unfortunately, neither of them lasts long after blonde Alice (Fox) takes them out.

Across town, Nick finds himself alone at a bar. A bot bartender offers him a glass of whisky, hinting that SIMs can be filled with the drink. Just then, Alice walks in. After admitting to killing Monty to "protect the primary user," Nick warns her to stay away from his family. She responds that it’s too late because blonde Alice is already at the hospital and plans to take out everyone. As Nick calls for help, the SIM bartender rushes over, but Alice quickly disables him. In a moment of distraction, Nick uses a charm to divert her attention, then yanks out her memory core and makes a run for it.

The ultimate face-off at the hospital

Blond Alice is causing chaos in the hospital while Maggie and the kids make their escape. But then, Blond Alice grabs Maggie and starts to rip her shirt open. She hints that if she had Nick's heart, maybe she could return his feelings. Just then, Nick is barreling down the street in his beat-up car, almost hitting Blond Alice, but he passes out right before he can save Maggie. In a tense moment, Maggie stabs the now-reanimated Blond Alice, who’s trying to choke her. Nick, just regaining consciousness, swings a piece of metal at her.

Luckily, the Peretti family is reunited and safe in the hospital as Nick recovers. The scene pulls away from the building with snow gently falling, and it eventually fades to black. But wait, there’s more! A lab worker powers up the computers again, and shockingly, they start uploading again—the same upload that transferred Alice's memories into the system. What does this mean? Although Alice seems to be out of the game, she’s actually replaying the harsh words and Nick's voice from when he ripped out her memory core.

Is there a sequel to Subservience coming soon? Will Alice finally get her revenge on Nick, the guy who turned her down? For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
