Shivarajkumar's latest film, Bhairathi Ranagal, which serves as a prequel to Mufti and dives into the backstory of his character, hit theaters in November 2024. It had a solid run in cinemas, and soon after, the original Kannada version made its way to Amazon Prime Video in December. The Telugu dubbed version was available on aha, but there hadn’t been any updates on other dubbed versions until now.

Today, Sun Network revealed that the Tamil and Malayalam versions of Bhairathi Ranagal will be available on Sun NXT starting February 28. The announcement teased, “The roar of Bhairathi Ranagal begins.” Directed by Narthan, the film also features a talented cast including Rahul Bose, Rukmini Vasanth, Chaya Singh, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Madhu Guruswamy, Avinash, Babu Hirannaiah, and Devaraj, among others.

If you're not familiar with Mufti, you can check out the original on Zee5, which has Kannada audio and English subtitles. For those who prefer Tamil, there's the remake Pathu Thala with Silambarasan available on Amazon Prime Video, and you can also watch Bhairathi Ranagal on Sun NXT. But if those options don’t work for you, here’s the gist: Mufti follows an undercover cop named Gana, played by Sriimurali, who dives into the world of the notorious crime lord Bhairathi Ranagal in Ronapura. Gana manages to get close to Ranagal’s gang and earns their trust while collecting crucial information. Interestingly, while Ranagal is seen as a criminal by outsiders, the locals view him as a protector. In the end, Ranagal turns himself in, but it’s revealed that he was aware of Gana’s true identity all along.

In Bhairathi Ranagal, Narthan dives into the backstory of the main character and how he became a machete-wielding gangster. It all starts with some rough experiences from his childhood, then we see Ranagal trying to change his life by pursuing a law degree and standing up for his community's rights. But eventually, he loses faith in the very system he once believed in – that’s the story that plays out in the film.
