The excitement surrounding Squid Game Season 3 is reaching an all-time high, with the buzz only continuing to grow. It seems there’s not a day that goes by without someone important mentioning the show. On the rare occasions when there’s silence, a team member steps in to fuel the fire with teasers and hints, leaving fans in a constant state of curiosity. Most recently, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that Netflix and he are brainstorming ideas for a potential spin-off after Season 3 wraps up. Now, actor Lee Seo-hwan has added to the intrigue, sharing a dark theory about Gi-hun’s journey in Season 3 that’s sure to keep you up at night.
New Squid Game Season 3 Theory
For those who may not remember, Lee Seo-hwan portrays Park Jung-bae in Seasons 1 and 2 of Squid Game. In the second season, Park's death deeply impacts Gi-hun, as they are the closest of friends, and it leaves Gi-hun hopeless. Park’s death is a pivotal moment in the series, signalling that Gi-hun’s character will undergo a significant shift. According to Screen Rant, Lee Seo-hwan has shared a chilling theory about what could happen in Season 3. He speculates that Gi-hun might seek revenge against the other players, having lost all hope.
“I don’t know anything about Season 3, but as a fan and viewer myself, I think there could be three possibilities. One is Gi-hun losing all hope, another is him becoming even more vengeful. But the third possibility could be him turning his anger towards the players, not the ones behind the game. If I were Jung-bae, I think it would be the most heartbreaking outcome to see Gi-hun filled with vengeance and spite against the players.”
Hwang Dong-hyuk On Squid Game Spin-Off Idea
Squid Game Season 3 is already in the works, having wrapped up shooting and entered post-production. But what's even more exciting is that creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has teased a potential spin-off for the series. This spin-off would focus on The Front Man and the now-deceased Recruiter, two pivotal characters. What's particularly intriguing is the time period the spin-off might explore. Hwang revealed that the three-year gap between Season 1 and Season 2 provides ample space for creative exploration into what happened during those years and what the two characters were up to during that time.
“One idea I’ve been playing with is focusing on the three-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2. For instance, what was The Front Man doing during those years? What about the Recruiter? When I have some free time, I like to let my imagination run wild and come up with ideas. So, I think we’re open to exploring a lot of possibilities,” Hwang Dong-hyuk shared with Screen Rant.

Netflix Korea recently shared a teaser for Squid Game Season 3 on their YouTube channel, featuring the iconic girl robot, Young-hee. In the teaser, she is seen in a new setting, facing off against the new boy robot, Chul-soo. While the video initially gave fans an exciting sneak peek, it also inadvertently revealed the release date for the upcoming season: June 27. Although the streaming giant quickly removed the video, sharp-eyed netizens were quick to capture screenshots of the announcement before it was pulled down.
