The world has been busy obsessing over the fact that Marvel Studios and Sony, in yet another collaborative effort, are now set to bring us Spider-Man 4. The fourth movie in Tom Holland’s standalone series has been talked about for a while now. So, now that it’s confirmed to move forward and on its way to entering production, wild rumors are bound to float around about the same. The latest one suggests that the makers have finally found an actor to play Harry Osborn, and it is none other than Dune star Timothée Chalamet. Yes, you read that right. But did you know this is not the first time Timothée has been associated with the Spider-Man films? He has already auditioned for the trilogy twice and was defeated by Tom Holland.
Timothée Chalamet Auditioned To Play Spider-Man Twice
Well, Harry Osborn is the son of Green Goblin Norman Osborn. The character has been speculated to be a part of Spider-Man 4 for a while, and it seems like things are finally moving toward getting him into the multiverse. According to multiple reports, the studios are eyeing Timothée Chalamet for the role. This brings his journey full circle, considering he initially set out to play the titular superhero and is now up for playing a villain in the same franchise.
Back in 2018, while talking to The Hollywood Reporter about auditioning for Spider-Man, Timothée Chalamet said, “I read twice, and I left sweating in a total panic. I called my agent, [UTA’s] Brian Swardstrom, and I said, ‘Brian, I’ve thought about this a lot, and I have to go back, knock on that door, and read again.’ He told me the story of Sean Young, and how, in an attempt to become Catwoman, she had scared everyone away when she showed up at the studio gates in costume.”
However, a couple of years later, Tom Holland and Zendaya, while talking to People, mentioned how Timothée Chalamet would be perfect to play Harry Osborn. "I don't know. People want him to be [Harry] Osborn. I think he would be a good friend of Spider-Man—or a foe of Spider-Man!" Holland added, "I think it would be good to bring him in as a [friend], and then he kind of becomes bad, and then he can be a villain. He'd be a good villain." Zendaya agreed, saying, “I think so too, which is funny 'cause he's so nice." Holland concluded, "Such a nice bloke, yeah."
Spider-Man 4 Alleged Title & Plot Details
As per the latest Production Weekly listing—which has also turned out to be just a hoax—the alleged title is Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While Destin Daniel Cretton is said to be the director of the film, Andrew Garfield, Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, and more have been listed under the cast. However, the synopsis details are even more interesting, with speculation rampant about whether the movie will be a street-level story or a multiverse-level narrative.
The synopsis for Spider-Man 4 reads: “Following the events of Doomsday, Peter Parker is determined to lead a normal life and focus on college, stepping back from his responsibilities as Spider-Man. However, peace is short-lived when a deadly new threat emerges, endangering his friends and forcing Peter to reconsider his promise. With stakes higher than ever, Peter reluctantly returns to his Spider-Man identity and finds himself teaming up with an unlikely ally to protect those he loves.”
Spider-Man 4 is set to release on the big screen on July 24, 2026. Stay tuned to Mobile Masala for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
