Over the past 6-7 months, Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir has been hanging out more on the set of Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, Coolie. He’s taking on the role of Dayal in this action-filled gangster movie, which is currently slated for a summer 2025 release, though it’s more likely to arrive in theaters later in the year. This part was originally meant for Fahadh Faasil, but since he was tied up with other commitments, it eventually went to Soubin.

Soubin Shahir: Coolie is packed with surprises for viewers

Soubin shared that working on Lokesh Kanagaraj's film has been an incredible journey, especially being on set with Rajinikanth. During the promotions for Machante Maalakha, he chatted with Movie World Media and expressed that landing a role in a Rajinikanth movie was something he never even imagined. He mentioned that, apart from the officially announced cast like Nagarjuna and Upendra, there are some unexpected surprises in terms of other actors involved.

"You can't help but feel a mix of nerves and excitement knowing you're sharing scenes with such legendary stars. Honestly, I never thought I'd get this chance, especially to be in the same frame as Rajini sir. I was so nervous that I messed up my lines. I was just in awe when he walked into the scene that I had to ask for a retake because I completely blanked on what I was supposed to say," Soubin added, noting that Coolie is a massive film in terms of both its cast and scale.

The actor admits to feeling a bit nervous, but he’s thrilled to have had the chance to share the screen with Rajinikanth. He emphasizes that he’s part of a fantastic team. Soubin mentions that they expect to finish principal photography for Coolie by late February or early March. In Malayalam cinema, he’ll next appear in Machante Maalakha, which is set to hit theaters on February 28.
