The dry spell for Tamil cinema has not been fully broken, even though there have been releases sporadically here and there that have given some respite to the theatres in Tamil Nadu. While we are currently in the fifth month of the year and no solid film has created major waves so far, two Tamil films are gearing up for release - Garudan and Weapon, setting the expectations high.

Soori’s Garudan gets release date

Garudan is an upcoming Tamil film, starring Sasikumar, Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan and Soori in the lead roles. The film will hit big screens on May 31, the makers announced on social media recently. Promising to be a rural action drama, Garudan will be yet another film in which Soori will play a serious role that will show his acting prowess. It is written and directed by RS Durai Senthilkumar, and backed by K Kumar. Garudan is Unni Mukundan's third Tamil film after Seedan and Bhaagamathie.

The film also stars Revathi Sharma, Sshivada, Roshini Haripriyan, Samuthrakani, Mime Gopi, RV Udayakumar, Vadivukarasi, Dushyanth, Motta Rajendran, and Bragida, among others. Garudan has music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. It is shot by cinematographer Arthur A Wilson. Isc and edited by Pradeep E Ragav.

Sathyaraj and Vasanth Ravi’s Weapon

Actors Sathyaraj and Vasanth Ravi will be headlining an upcoming film titled Weapon. The film is set to hit theatres in May, although a release date is yet to be announced. It is expected that Weapon will also be released on May 31.

Written and directed by Guhan Senniappan, Weapon has music scored by Ghibran. The film also features Rajiv Menon, Tanya Hope, Rajeev Pillai, Yashika Aannand, Mime Gopi, Kaniha, Gajaraj, Syed Subhan, and Baradwaj Rangan. The film is touted to be a superhuman story, essayed by Sathyaraj, who is being hunted down by a bounty hunter played by Vasanth Ravi. Weapon marks the first time the actors are sharing screen space.
