Following its initial rental availability on Prime Video, Sky Force is preparing for a comprehensive release on the OTT platform. All subscribers will have access to the film starting March 21, 2025. Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, the movie stars Akshay Kumar alongside newcomer Veer Pahariya, with performances by Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan. The narrative centers around the 1965 Indo-Pakistani air conflict, highlighting India's first bombing of the Pakistani Sargodha airbase.

Sky Force plot synopsis

In Sky Force, India faces a devastating surprise assault during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. The counterattack is spearheaded by Wing Commander Ahuja, while Squadron Leader Vijaya valiantly confronts a more powerful enemy aircraft single-handedly before vanishing without a trace. Ultimately, after 23 years of relentless pursuit to uncover the truth and expose a cover-up, Ahuja secures posthumous recognition for Vijaya's bravery and sacrifice.

Produced by Jio Studios and Maddock Films, the film hit the big screens on January 24, 2025, right in the middle of Republic Day weekend. It did poorly at the box office despite receiving mostly positive reviews from critics.

Box office decline

As reported by Pinkvilla, the film experienced a sharp decline in box office earnings on Monday after a strong opening weekend, attributed to a substantial reduction in ticket prices. The total worldwide revenue was projected to fall between ₹144 crore and ₹168.60 crore by the conclusion of its theatrical run.

Following allegations from trade analyst Komal Nahta, who claimed that the producers of Sky Force obstructed bookings to artificially inflate the film's box office performance, the collection figures have come under intense examination.

Film's lasting impact

Sandeep Kewlani dismissed the allegations directed at both Maddock films during an interview with News18. He contended that the box office performance of a film is irrelevant in the context of major productions. Concerning Chhaava and Sky Force, he asserted that their earnings are genuine and that there were no instances of block bookings. The audience responded positively, expressing their enjoyment. Even 20 days post-premiere, Kewlani still receives daily messages on social media from fans who have cherished the film. He emphasized that once the film is completed and made available to the public, their responsibilities are fulfilled.

He added that people won't recall a film's box office take for very long. The collection of the film is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. What matters is the film's impact and how long it remains in their minds.
