Sikandar's Box Office Hurdle: Salman Khan Faces Tough Competition from Vicky & Horror-Comedy Queen
3 days ago | 5 Views
Salman Khan's film Sikandar is set to premiere in theaters on Sunday, March 30. This highly anticipated action movie marks Salman's return to the Eid release schedule after a two-year hiatus. The star's prominence and his previous successes during the festival have fueled high expectations despite the fact that the AR Murugadoss-directed film has struggled to create the level of excitement typically associated with a Salman Khan release. As the initial screenings conclude and a clearer understanding of its box office performance develops, we will assess how Sikandar compares to the top performers in Bollywood over recent years.
Sikandar box office day 1 forecast
Although Sikandar is Salman's first Eid release in two years, it has not set any records with its advance ticket sales. The film has garnered approximately ₹10 crore in advance bookings for its opening day, surpassing the recent release L2: Empuraan featuring Mohanlal but falling short of Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava, which achieved ₹13 crore in advance sales. Nevertheless, industry insiders anticipate that on-the-spot bookings and the Sunday release could contribute to a strong opening.
According to Sacnilk, the film is expected to debut with a net collection of around ₹25-30 crore on its first day, which would place it below Chhaava's ₹31 crore benchmark. However, some industry analysts suggest that robust spot bookings could enable it to surpass this historical action film. “With early estimates indicating a potential ₹50 crore opening on Sunday and a promising box office trajectory ahead, Sikandar is poised to unite audiences for a remarkable cinematic experience,” stated Gautam Dutta, CEO of Revenue & Operations at PVR INOX Ltd.
Nonetheless, even a ₹50 crore gross on its first day would still position Sikandar behind Salman's own Tiger 3, which earned ₹44 crore net and ₹54 crore gross, as well as the horror-comedy Stree 2, which achieved a gross of ₹70 crore.
Sikandar leaked online
Sikandar was illegally distributed online by pirates on Saturday night, just hours prior to its scheduled release. Trade analyst Komal Nahta reported that the filmmakers had requested authorities to remove the film from approximately 600 websites. This leak could negatively impact Sikandar's box office performance. "The producer had the authorities take down the film from 600 sites last night, but the damage was already done. The spread continued and is still ongoing. This reprehensible act could prove costly for the producer of the Salman Khan film," Nahta stated.
Overview of Sikandar
Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss, signifies Salman Khan's return to the cinema for the first time since 2023. The film features prominent roles by Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, and Sharman Joshi. It premiered in theaters on March 30.
