Actor-turned-filmmaker Vamshi is set to release his debut film, Firefly, on April 24. However, his filmography as both an actor and director is relatively limited. He previously worked as an assistant director on Mayabazar 2016, produced by Puneeth Rajkumar’s PRK Productions, and later created a few short films. One of these, titled God Must Be Waiting, was featured on Zee5 during its Global Content Fest in 2022.

Guru Deshpande, the director of Rajahuli, viewed the short film and subsequently offered Kiran Kumar, who had previously assisted on Deshpande's production Gentleman, the chance to direct a segment in the anthology Pentagon. Vamshi starred in this segment, showcasing a more rustic, rural appearance. Following this, he began developing a script that he presented to various producers, but unfortunately, none of the proposals materialized.

At that point, Vamshi learned that Niveditha Shivarajkumar was in search of scripts to adapt into web series. He sent her a few pitch decks, which she found appealing, leading to further discussions. They presented the script to a prominent streaming platform, which initially approved it but later withdrew its support for production due to Vamshi's status as a newcomer.

Subsequently, the actor-filmmaker shared his film script with Niveditha, aware that she was hesitant about entering feature production. He sought her assistance in finding a producer. Fortunately, she appreciated the story and decided to take the risk, requesting him to present the script to her father, Century Star Shivarajkumar.

Shivarajkumar's word of advice for Vamshi

Due to the demanding schedule of the Hattrick Hero, Vamshi was only able to share his story with him about a month and a half later, which the Hero appreciated. He also supported the idea of Vamshi taking on the lead role, as they required someone capable of portraying a character in their twenties who was relatively inexperienced. In a conversation with the Kannada Filmy Club, Vamshi recounted that Shivarajkumar offered him a single piece of advice: “You are undertaking two significant responsibilities, so exercise caution. Plan thoroughly and assemble a competent team,” Vamshi relayed.

In the film Firefly, Vamshi portrays Vivekananda, commonly known as Vicky, whom he characterizes as an imperfect individual navigating a seemingly flawless world. Despite being an award-winning mathematics teacher, Vicky struggles with profound sadness, even while surrounded by numerous individuals, including his parents, played by Sudharani and Achyuth Kumar. This Charanraj musical features a cast that includes Chitkala Biradar, Rachana Inder, Sheetal Shetty, Sunder, and Veena, with Shivarajkumar from Bhairathi Ranagal making a brief yet significant cameo appearance.
