Director Arindam Bhattacharya has directed six Bengali films so far, starting with Antarleen in 2016. His 2023 film Shibpur garnered positive reviews and awards. However, the director is disillusioned with the Bengali film industry. He finished shooting Durgapur Junction in 2024. The shooting of Shibpur 2 was scheduled to start this year. But he decided to shoot it in Hindi. 

Why such a decision? Arindam told Anandabazar Online, “Stree 2 did a business of over 22 crores, but Bengali films could not leave a mark. This is an old story. The problem is increasing. I am a producer as well. How many more days shall I do charity?? He wished to permanently settle in Bollywood after the release of Durgapur Junction. 

Many Bengali actors and directors opted for Bollywood because of poor business in Bengal. If everyone leaves, who will stand by the side of Bengali films? 

Arindam replied, “There are many reasons. When there is a dearth of business, actors come in cooperation. In Bollywood, artists reduced their remuneration. But look at Tollywood. No one is ready to reduce a single penny.” 

The director also blamed the Federation, saying that when 30 people can do work, Federation imposes 60. It increases the producers’ cost. Hence no one from Bollywood wants to shoot ad films in Kolkata. He therefore wants to peacefully work in Bollywood.

How will he establish Shibpur in Bollywood? Arindam said, “Everyone knows Howrah. In the film, the name Shibpur will be replaced by Howrah.” Hindi actors will also work in the film. The script has been ready. Starting with Shibpur 2, all his films will be shot in Mumbai. Which actors from Bengal will be in the film? The director hinted that Mamata Shankar is likely to be there. He will announce the rest soon.
