Puja is just around the corner and the Bengali film industry has started to warm up with their Puja releases. This year, Srijit Mukherjee and Dev’s collaboration, Tekka, will be dropped. Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s heist drama Bahurupi will be released. Now, Surinder Films and Soham’s Entertainment revealed the first look of their Puja bonanza, Shastri. In the film, Mithun Chakraborty and Debasree Roy will reunite after 16 years

Directed by Pathikrit Basu, the film also stars Soham Chakraborty, Saswata Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, Anirban Chakraborti, Sauraseni Maitra, Rajatava Dutta and Ayush Das.

Shastri also marks Mithun Chakraborty and Debashree Roy’s collaboration after 16 years making it a highly anticipated revival of the magic of yesteryears. “Shooting with Mithunda is always fun, as he is like family to me. In the last film, I wasn't cast opposite him. So, we are being paired together in this film after quite a long time, and we are having a really great time on the sets. Most of the time, he cracks jokes on the sets or pulls some pranks. The audience used to love our jodi, and I hope they will show us the same love,” she said.

Talking about his character, Mithun said, “I have two looks in the film. One is that of a struggling man who is at odds with reality. He is a simpleton who is bullied and oppressed. He belongs to the working class. When he transforms into a Shastri, he can exact his revenge on his wrongdoers. When he does become a Shastri, then too, he takes on three different looks. First is that of a baba, then that of a well-established persona, and finally a messiah. Excited and looking forward to the film’s big release this Puja.”

Meanwhile, Soham – also the producer of the film – said, “My character is an astrophysicist by profession. He’s against those who misinterpret astrology and promote superstition.

There’s no doubt about Shastri being the biggest Pujo film. I’m positive that the viewers will find our caption justified after watching the trailer.”
