Following its theatrical debut in January of this year, Deva is poised for release on OTT platforms. The film, featuring Shahid Kapoor in the lead role, will be available for streaming on Netflix starting March 28, 2025. This action thriller was produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur of Roy Kapur Films and directed by Rosshan Andrrews. The cast also includes Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulati, Pravessh Rana, and Kubbra Sait. With a revised conclusion, it serves as a remake of Mumbai Police, Andrrews' 2013 Malayalam film.

Deva plot synopsis

Dev (Kapoor), a rebellious supercop, finds himself in a car accident one night. Upon waking in the hospital, he discovers that he has lost his memory. His brother-in-law, Farhan (Rana), who serves as the police commissioner, assists him in reconstructing the events leading up to the accident. Dev was investigating a notorious mobster, Prabhat Jadhav (Manish Wadhwa), as part of a probe into a potential police informant. Rohan (Gulati), an honorable police officer and Dev's closest friend, is aiding him in this investigation. During a violent confrontation with Prabhat Jadhav, Dev ultimately killed him in battle, though he humbly attributed the success to Rohan. Tragically, Rohan was fatally shot in the chest during a ceremony honoring their achievements. Just before Dev could present his findings, he was involved in an accident. Despite his memory loss, he is determined to uncover the identity of Rohan's killer, and the police force assigns him to solve the case.

Composers Jakes Bejoy and Vishal Mishra each provided two tracks for the film's soundtrack. The cinematography was overseen by Amit Roy, and the editing was handled by A. Sreekar Prasad.

Critical Reception

Upon its release in theaters on January 31, 2025, Deva received mixed reviews from critics. While some lauded Kapoor's acting, the cinematography, and the editing, others criticized the film for its climax and storyline. The box office performance was underwhelming.

Deva experienced a disappointing opening weekend, followed by a weak performance on Monday and Tuesday. The film turned out to be a financial failure at the box office, with its total worldwide earnings estimated between ₹51.58 and 59 crore.
