Shahid Kapoor shares his thoughts on the differences between OTT platforms and theaters
In a chat with India Today, Shahid shared his thoughts on the magic of the big screen. He pointed out that while audiences can catch films on smaller screens like OTT platforms, the experience just isn’t the same. He believes that viewers are starting to pick up on this difference.
He added, “People know they can stream any movie at home and won’t miss out on much by skipping the theater. Still, there are certain experiences that are best enjoyed in a cinema. As creators, we really need to recognize that we’re working with two distinct platforms and formats now.”
Shahid explained that viewers can enjoy long-form content on OTT platforms, which can stretch to six, seven, or even eight hours, since they tend to watch it in bits and pieces. They might catch half an episode and then take a break. However, when it comes to watching a movie in theaters, it usually gets split into two parts.
Shahid Kapoor talks about attracting viewers to the cinemas
Kapoor mentioned that a good trailer should make you feel like you absolutely have to see the movie in theaters.
He added, "No matter if you're a filmmaker, writer, or actor, your goal is to make something that pulls people into the theater. They can always choose to stay home and watch something else, so that mindset should be front and center when making a film."
Deva lineup
Shahid Kapoor takes on the role of police officer Dev Ambre in the film, while Pooja Hedge plays Diya. The cast also features Pavail Gulati, Girish Kulkarni, Kubbra Sait, and more.
According to reports, Deva will hit Netflix for streaming once its time in theaters wraps up.
In the meantime, you can catch Shahid Kapoor's Deva in theaters starting January 31.
