Raj Chakraborty and his team have completed their film, Santan. There were speculations that the film would be released in Puja. Mithun Chakraborty and Ritwick Chakraborty play the lead in the film that is produced by SVF.
However, according to media reports, the film will not be released during Puja. Raj has confirmed this to Anandabazar Online. Meanwhile, according to sources, Santan may be released during Deepavali.
If Raj’s film is not released, this will be the first time SVF will have no Puja release this year. The production house has one more film, Srijit Mukherji’s Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichu Nei. However, the multistarrer film will not be released in Puja as Srijit’s film Tekka is to be dropped.
Director Rahool Mukherjee was scheduled to direct SVF’s Puja release this year with Prosenjit Chatterjee and Anirban Bhattacharya. However, the film got shelved, firstly due to the clash between the directors' guild and the Federation, and then due to other reasons.
Reportedly, both the producers wanted Srijit’s other film to be released after Puja. Hence, Santan was SVF’s high hope. The shooting of the film ended, but the dubbing is due. The state is buzzing with the protest regarding the RG Kar incident. CM Mamata Banerjee asked the citizens to return to the festival, but people reacted harshly to that call. Is that why the release is postponed?
Another film, Shastri, directed by Pathikrit Basu and starring Mithun Chakraborty and Debasree Roy, will be released during Puja. If Santan had been released, two of Mithun’s films would have been released during Puja, an incident happening after many years. But that will not happen in the present situation.
