Sankranthi really affects how well movies do at the box office!

No more benefit shows will be happening in Telangana. Telangana's Cinematography Minister, Komati Reddy, has confirmed that movie ticket prices won't be going up. There's a reason behind this announcement, and it's sparked quite a buzz in the Telugu states. CM Revanth's comments in the assembly, Allu Arjun's press conference, and the subsequent raids on film stars' homes have all become hot topics for both the industry and the public. It's clear that the Telangana government's choice to keep ticket prices steady could seriously affect the box office earnings of movies released during Sankranthi. Additionally, the government has given a unique opportunity to the film Pushpa 2, which is set to release worldwide on December 5.
On December 4, just a day before its big release, they also allowed paid premiere shows. They even gave the green light to bump up the ticket price by an extra Rs. 800 for those special screenings. Because of this, regular theater tickets shot past Rs. 1000, while multiplex tickets hit Rs. 1200 with taxes included. For the first four days after its release, tickets were around Rs. 500 each. Thanks to all this, 'Pushpa 2' raked in massive earnings, pulling in a record-breaking Rs. 294 crore on its opening day and making history. Reports say it has already surpassed Rs. 1500 crore in total collections. Things were looking great until the situation took a twist. The police opened an investigation into an incident at the Sandhya Theater, which led to Allu Arjun's arrest, sparking quite a bit of chatter. He was later released on bail.
There was a big debate going on social media about this whole situation, with everyone pointing fingers at the government and also at film stars who were seen lining up at Allu Arjun's place to pay him a visit. In the assembly, CM Revanth Reddy had a strong reaction to the Sandhya Theater incident and what followed. He mentioned that Allu Arjun and other celebrities didn’t even acknowledge the tragic event from a human standpoint. He emphasized that even if regular folks lose their lives, they can’t get special treatment. Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy backed him up on this too. The government's recent decision is set to shake things up for the upcoming Sankranthi movies. A bunch of films are lined up to entertain audiences during this festive season. Kicking things off is 'Game Changer', a political action thriller directed by Shankar and featuring Ram Charan in the lead role, hitting theaters on January 10. Produced by Dil Raju with a whopping budget of around Rs. 450 crores, the film team is gearing up for a special premiere similar to what was done for 'Pushpa 2', and they're hoping to get approval for benefit shows along with a hike in ticket prices. They've even predicted that the box office collections could outdo 'Pushpa 2'.
The Telangana government's recent announcement has put 'Game Changer' in a tough spot regarding its box office collections. The news that ticket prices won't be allowed to rise, aside from special benefit shows, is definitely surprising. Plus, with the CM's comments and Allu Arjun's press conference stirring the pot even more, it looks like any chance of raising ticket prices is off the table. Meanwhile, 'Daku Maharaj,' an action-packed film featuring Balakrishna and directed by Bobby, is also set to hit theaters during Sankranti. There's speculation that this film might have a shot at increasing ticket prices. However, with the latest developments, it seems unlikely that 'Game Changer' will hit its expected collection targets.
Balakrishna's latest flick, 'Bhagavanth Kesari,' raked in about Rs. 130 crores during its run, but with the recent ticket price hikes and benefit shows, hitting that number again seems tough. Now, there's another budget-friendly film on the way called 'Sankranthiki Yaalaan.' This one isn’t a mass entertainer; it’s aimed at families and is directed by Anil Ravipudi, featuring Venkatesh in the lead role. Even without premieres and benefit shows, there’s a chance ticket prices might go up. A notable aspect of this film is that Dil Raju is producing it. The government's recent decisions could affect this situation, and it’ll be interesting to see how industry leaders respond to these changes. Plus, will the AP government take cues from Telangana's approach? It'll be fascinating to see what they decide regarding the Sankranti films.
